This year the ICA/ISCA Conference will be held virtually. IMHCA is excited to host Distinguished Conference Presenter Jess Maitri, who will share the Yothera Method, a three-phase healing journey that assists individuals in releasing stuck patterns in the mind, to heal their relationship to their body and heart. IMHCA will also hold our Annual Meeting via Zoom following the breakout sessions on Friday evening, November 6.

Upcoming Trainings - December 2020

A Conversation at the Intersection of
Social Justice, Advocacy, and Mental Health
Friday December 18,  5:30-8:30 pm

This virtual offering is a collaboration between the Idaho Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA) and the Idaho Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling (IALGBTIC). After receiving positive feedback following the training in August, we jointly decided to offer another opportunity to take this timely and informative workshop. This course will provide relevant information for mental health professionals who are interested in expanding their awareness of what social justice and advocacy looks like. Frameworks of advocacy within intrapersonal, interpersonal, and systemic/institutional settings will be explored.

A portion of the proceeds will go to a non-profit serving marginalized communities in Idaho.*

*Proceeds from the training in August were donated to Add the Words, an organization working to update the Idaho Human Rights Act to protect fellow Idahoans against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity for employment.

Pending CE approval, this training provides 3 Ethics CEs.

Engaged and Ethical Media Interactions for Counselors

Experts in mental health are often called on to provide commentary about the impact that mental health issues and sociopolitical climates have on wellness. This interactive workshop will help attendees learn how to interpret ethics codes, utilize ethical decision making models, and create content to share in the media that (1) complies with ethical guidelines and (2) provides accurate depictions of counseling in practice.

During this workshop, attendees will learn how to ethically engage with the media, decide whether or not to accept media interviews, and understand the intersection of ethics codes and the media (namely confidentiality, competence, and cultural awareness). Attendees in this workshop will be given the opportunity to practice writing digital media posts. Attendees will gain insight and inspiration from the presenters and other attendees to share their ideas and help the public learn more about mental health. All levels and disciplines of practitioners are welcome and will benefit from attending this workshop. Registration will open in later in November. Read more.
